Don’t Let Work Consume Your Life
In September 2024 I decided to live out one of my dreams across the world. I made one of the most spontaneous decisions of my life (anyone who knows me can testify that I am a planner and not that spontaneous) a month before I left I decided to finally bite the bullet and got online and bought a one-way ticket to Dublin, Ireland.
Back in 2021, I WWOOFed (Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms) on Vancouver Island on an alpaca farm. Essentially, WWOOFing is working on a farm without pay but working for your accommodation and food. A lot of my love for nature comes from working on farms throughout my life. A dream I had entering adulthood was to WWOOF overseas in Ireland however, we all know what happened in 2020, and that paused my plans. I went to Gabriola Island instead and then went to school for Graphic and Web Design
3 years later, I still had my WWOOFing dreams in the back of my mind. I started Abby Lynn Designs in January 2024 and it was a slow start but eventually things started to kick off in the spring. Feeling more confident in my business I decided it was time to take the leap and work on a farm in Ireland. I was there for a total of 5 weeks and it was the best experience of my life.
One reason I decided to “just do it” is because I realized that I have my whole life to work. Work takes up a lot of our lives, and even though it’s important to do what you love, it is still work at the end of the day. I believe it is important to have plans outside of work and aim to go through with them. Time is one of the most valuable things we have that we will never get back.
This is your sign to go on that trip or start that new hobby. Don’t let work consume your life and time.
